Charming early 1970s lakefront home in Denver. Original oak kitchen cabinets were clustered together in a small corner of a large rectangular room, resulting in a sizable void of unused space. To enhance the flow and add function, I built a custom center island (roughly 4' x 10'), constructed with red oak to match the perimeter cabinets.  The original built-in wall oven was removed and converted to a custom pantry with matching cabinet doors.  Custom crown molding was mounted atop all upper cabinets to add depth and visual interest.  Following all carpentry, all cabinets were then refinished in Sherwin Williams "Cascades", using a water-based, low gloss lacquer.  Satin gold hardware finished the new look with a touch of modern elegance.

Modern farmhouse home with builder-grade antique white cabinetry distressed with dark brown glazing was striking, but not aligned with the homeowner's design taste.  Both the sprawling media room built-ins and laundry area cabinetry were the scope of this refinishing job.  To add an element of depth and drama, the media room cabinetry was redone in Sherwin Williams "Peppercorn" in a low gloss finish, while the laundry room took on a crisp, sharper look with "Repose Gray".  An elegant Carrara quartz slab and color-matching beadboard accent wall helped redefine the space.  All new satin nickel hardware paired well with the refinished cabinets.

Vintage bar cart/server fully refinished. New recessed caster wheels were also mounted underneath to enable portability and improved ease of use.  Inspired by the bright, vibrant colors of the Pop Art era, this was refinished in Sherwin Williams "Exuberant Pink" in a water-based lacquer, sprayed on for a durable, rich, and flawless finish. The brass hardware was thoroughly cleaned and polished back to its original look. The top panels open outwards to reveal a faux slate serving top, and the drawer features a velvet-lined divider area for smaller utensils.  Finished on all four sides to allow for floating room placement.

Spacious and well-maintained kitchen in Mooresville undergoing a complete renovation, with the first order of business to refinish the dark cherry/pecan-stained maple cabinets. As the client was aiming to brighten up the space given its limited natural light, Sherwin Williams "Rhinestone" was selected in a water-based lacquer for the cabinet color. All new hardware (converting from a single-hole knob to a larger, two-hole handle) in an antique brass finish offered a striking contrast and better proportionate scale to the doors, in particular the large uppers. Custom crown molding was also mounted to add depth and visual interest to the upper cabinets. All new soft-close hinges were installed, ensuring smoother operation of the doors and drawers going forward.

Rare, mid-century dry bar with tambour door, mirrored back panel, and faux slate surface top, manufactured by American of Martinsville. Piece was fully restored and refinished in "Sea Serpent" by Sherwin Williams in a satin finish. Original brass hardware was restored and polished, and new recessed caster wheels were mounted underneath for easy movement.

Rare and authentic mid-century modern 4-piece bedroom set, manufactured by Johnson Carper. This set had been well-used over the years, with its fair share of wear and tear.  The bottom corners on all pieces in the set had been gnawed presumably by the owner's four-legged friend, which necessitated extensive deep surface repair prior to the onset of refinishing. The wood doors and drawer-fronts were in remarkable condition and featured gorgeous recessed pulls. The highly characteristic MCM legs and feet were also structurally and cosmetically viable.  These and the doors and drawers were refinished with a light sanding, matching toner, and a few coats of satin clear.  The frames were fully repaired and refinished in Sherwin Williams waterbased lacquer in "Pure White", sprayed on for a flawless, durable and smooth finish.

Vintage dresser and matching hutch/bookcase with beautiful faux bamboo accents, very characteristic of the Thomasville Allegro pieces. This restoration involved full deconstruction, surface sanding/repairs as needed, and stripping and refinishing the original painted handles to a rose gold with satin lacquer clear coat for added durability.  "Exuberant Pink" by Sherwin Williams delivered bold opulence with a nod to the Pop Art era of the 1950s.

Vintage "American of Martinsville" bar cart/server restoration and refinishing. Complete with fold-out faux-slate table top and hidden caster wheels for simple maneuverability, this piece was abundant in charm and period details. The original brass hardware had been neglected into a dark patina over the years, but was polished back to its gorgeous original luster.  A custom blend of charcoal gray and navy blue was manually mixed to render a moody and dramatic contrast to the polished brass handles.  The end result was an eclectic balance of mid-century and modern glamour.

1930s era server/sideboard restoration and refinishing. Piece was recovered in a neglected state with substantial surface damage, including deep gouges and scratches, and badly oxidized brass hardware. Given its age and composition of solid wood and walnut veneers, extreme caution had to go into the stripping and surface sanding to ensure minimal damage to the thin veneer. Client wanted a warm/dark gray color to blend with their existing furnishings, so Sherwin Williams "Peppercorn" was selected in a satin finish.  Hardware was restored by hand to its original condition.

Idyllic custom mountain home in Roaring Gap, NC. Well-maintained kitchen was original to home and constructed of high quality maple, but had a white-washed finish that was no longer reflective of the homeowners' design taste. Wanting to deviate from the norm and infuse their kitchen with warmth, personality, and a rustic, yet trendy edge, "Sea Serpent" by Sherwin Williams was chosen for its subdued blue tones with a subtle hint of teal. Completing the look, we chose champagne gold door and drawer hardware.

Custom bathroom vanity built from scratch for client's new construction home.  With limited bathroom space and non-traditional dimensions and plumbing location, my client was unable to purchase a prefabricated vanity from a big box store that would provide the fit and function they needed. Using maple 3/4" plywood for the frame, and poplar for the face frame and door rails and stiles, I built a shaker-style vanity with 2 full-size doors and 3 drawers.  Following the build, I then finished the vanity in Sherwin Williams "Snowbound", and mounted 3" door/drawer pulls in a satin black finish for an elegant contrast.

Full restoration and custom refinishing of a 1960s sideboard, manufactured by R-Way Furniture.Gorgeous period details and ornate brass hardware adorned this piece. Following complete deconstruction, each piece down to the screws and hinges was repaired and restored.  All the original brass was polished back to its original luster, and the frame and doors were all refinished in a water-based lacquer in "In The Navy" by Sherwin Williams. Spraying all finishes (primers/undercoats and topcoats) with a 5-stage HVLP (high volume low pressure) commercial grade turbine and gun atomizes the finish to an ultra-smooth, uniform, factory-grade level.

Stately Harrisburg home featuring a large kitchen with original oak cabinets. Homeowners recently had their hardwood flooring refinished, and were ready to bring new life to their cabinets as well.  Identifying the ideal cabinet color was a challenge, largely because the kitchen had earth tone granite counters (Santa Cecilia) around the perimeter, and a black granite counter on the center island.  After seeing a sample door sprayed in "Anew Gray" by Sherwin Williams, it was clearly the ideal color to integrate best with the warm and cool tones in the same space.  The built-in desk was also stained in the same original cabinet finish (golden oak), and to give it a more distinctive look, we decided to sand, stain, and seal it as opposed to painting it the new cabinet color. "Briarsmoke" by Varathane was selected as the stain color, with two coats of satin polyurethane added for durability. The adjacent laundry room and hall bath vanity were also refinished for continuity. The original oil-rubbed bronze hardware was re-used and added a gorgeous pop of color and contrast to the finished product.

New construction Davidson home with open concept layout.  Homeowner inquired about options to add decorative trim/millwork to certain walls, and we landed on creating a large feature wall with framed-in tongue and groove shiplap with a custom picture ledge.  Furthermore, we took the shiplap over the fireplace mantel for continuity.  After installation, the new shiplap was finished in Sherwin Williams "Peppercorn" in a satin finish.  Proper cutouts were made to accommodate all outlets and wall receptacles.

Family heirloom China cabinet, manufactured my Lexington Furniture. At over 6' tall by 5' wide, its stance was very grand and stately.  Homeowners contracted me to not only refinish it, but re-construct it.  Mounted along the top of the original cabinet was an oversized, ornate wooden trim piece that did not reflect the clients' design taste.  Interested in something less overt, while still retaining its period look, I removed the wooden top piece and replaced it with simple crown molding.  The entire piece was then refinished in Sherwin Williams "Tricorn Black" in a satin finish.  New satin gold hardware retained its original look, yet added a fresh, almost contemporary feel.

Vintage dresser completely re-invented in Sherwin Williams "Shamrock" in a satin finish.  The sprayed-on waterbased lacquer finish delivers exceptional finish quality and durability.  The original ornate gold hardware was cleaned and polished back to its original glory, resulting in a striking and versatile piece, suitable for a traditional or contemporary backdrop.

Late-90s Huntersville home with original oak kitchen cabinetry. The homeowners recently had their walls painted an off-white/pale ("Alabaster"), and were interested in cabinet colors that would incorporate well with this new scheme and their existing furniture and decor.  Sherwin Williams "Dovetail" was selected for the perimeter cabinets, while a darker, more dramatic "Peppercorn" adorned the center island and stools.  With short 30" upper cabinets and 9' ceilings, the homeowners also expressed interest in cost-effective solutions to fill the void and add dimension.  Custom crown molding was mounted atop the upper cabinets, and finished in the new cabinet color.  New matte black T-bar handles finished off the elegant new look of the kitchen.

1960s Mid-Century dresser and mirror fully restored in Sherwin Williams "Sea Serpent" in a satin finish.  Original brass hardware was heavily oxidized with a dark patina, but was brought back to its original luster.  All finishes were applied with a commercial grade 5-stage HVLP spray gun, rendering an ultra-smooth and durable factory finish.

Tranquil Blowing Rock mountain home with original oak cabinetry.  Homeowners wanted to incorporate a warm pop of color that incorporated charcoal and blue tones, so "Sea Serpent" by Sherwin Williams was the ideal selection. Sprayed in a low gloss satin finish, it delivered a warm and elegant effect to the kitchen - without the significantly higher costs of tearing out and replacing the cabinetry.  Custom crown molding was also mounted and finished above the upper cabinets, helping reduce the appearance of the dated soffit panel.

Stately Macaulay home with oversized kitchen and butler’s pantry. Maple cabinetry was original to the home (roughly 20 years old) and had a dark cherry factory stain.  Homeowners’ strategy was to brighten up and modernize the area by first getting new, lighter granite counters, then refinish the cabinets.  Wanting to avoid an impersonal, builder-grade stark white tone, we moved forward with Sherwin Williams ‘Snowbound’ for the perimeter cabinets, and “Peppercorn” for the center island - both in a satin, low gloss finish. All new matte black hardware brought balance and elegance into the new design.

Charming Cedarfield home with heavy grain oak cabinetry original to the home.  Santa Cecilia granite and a dark brown glass and copper mosaic tile backsplash had previously been installed by the customer, and the final project phase in the kitchen was to refinish the cabinets. Sherwin Williams "Porpoise" was chosen in a low gloss/satin finish, given its warm hues of bronze and mocha. The satin nickel knobs were also replaced with oil-rubbed bronze handles, which mimicked the outlet covers and kept the theme of continuity throughout the kitchen. The old crown molding atop the upper cabinets was also replaced with a slightly larger profile.

Beautiful Macaulay home with large open concept kitchen and expansive sight-lines into living room. Customers previously added a striking Carrara marble herringbone backsplash, and were seeking a new cabinet color that would blend well with their tropic brown granite counters, stainless steel appliances, and backsplash.  Rather than going with a stark white, Sherwin Williams "White Duck" was selected (in a low gloss satin sheen) for the cabinet refinish. The warm, subtle off-white hues rendered a softer, more custom look.  The existing satin nickel hardware was re-purposed, and provided a nice pop of visual interest against the cabinetry.

Full refinish of 2-piece bedroom set from Lexington/Young Hinkle furniture. Both dresser and nightstand were finished in 4 coats of Sherwin Williams' 2020 Color of the Year 'Naval' in a satin finish.  Original brass hardware was also cleaned and polished back to its original shine.

Skybrook clients had recently renovated their kitchen with new white quartz counters, subway tile backsplash and contemporary, minimalist hardware. They were interested in adding a custom pop of color with their center island, and were considering dark grays. A custom charcoal gray paint blend was used on the island, which delivered the precise look the clients were highly anticipating

Solid ambrosia maple Ethan Allen dining table refinish job. Table had been in client's home for many years, and with normal wear and tear had lost its original luster and appeal.  The original cherry stain was not reflective of the client's design taste or surrounding decor, and they had asked for the top to be stripped and re-stained, but the apron and legs to be sprayed white. The original top (and two extension leaves) were stripped down to the bare wood and stained with an oil-based espresso stain. After a light sanding, 4 coats of water-based polyurethane (by General Finishes) were sprayed for a factory smooth and durable finish for years to come. The legs and apron were finished in "Snowbound" by Sherwin Williams in a satin finish.

Custom bathroom vanity build, spray finish, and new marble counter fabrication.  Davidson client had a small pedestal sink in their downstairs half bathroom, which not only lacked proper cabinet storage capacity, but also failed to reflect their personal taste for the sink itself. Because the area was very shallow at only 16" deep (x 41" wide), it wasn't a standard vanity size that could be easily purchased at a big box store.  Using an inspirational photo provided by the client, I built a replica that included shaker-style cope and stick poplar doors and beveled legs, all mounted to a maple plywood frame. The cabinet was then finished in Sherwin Williams "Snowbound". Gorgeous satin gold knobs and soft-close hinges completed the look. I had an Irwin White marble sink fabricated with a rectangular undermount sink and matching backsplashes.

Full restoration of a 1960s hutch/display cabinet. Original wood had surface-level imperfections, so re-staining it wasn't a viable option.  Sherwin Williams "Tricorn Black" was selected as the new color, and all the original brass hardware, including the striking diamond grid door inserts, were thoroughly cleaned and polished back to their original luster.

Open and airy Birkdale home flooded with natural light and soaring ceilings. Client had partially renovated kitchen with new granite counters and a striking natural stone and glass mosaic backsplash. The factory maple shaker-style cabinets were the last component of the renovation. The oversized kitchen received a two-tone cabinet treatment; the perimeter cabinets were refinished in Sherwin Williams "Perfect Greige", while the large center island was done in a warmer, more dramatic "Spalding Gray". The Jack and Jill master bath and upstairs guest bath cabinets were also refinished in "Spalding Gray". New soft-close hinges and satin nickel hardware were installed to maximize the customized effect of the new design.

Gorgeous, open-concept kitchen in Macaulay neighborhood had pecan-stained maple cabinets that were original to the home. Tropical brown granite counters and a 6x6 tumbled marble backsplash together rendered a subdued, darker look in an otherwise open space.  Homeowners wanted to brighten the cabinets and replace the backsplash in colors and textures that would both go well with the existing counters and flow with the adjacent rooms. 'Chantilly Lace' by Sherwin Williams in a satin finish was selected for the cabinets, and a 3x6 earth-tone marble subway tile was used on the backsplash with 'biscuit' sanded grout. New oil-rubbed bronze hardware dressed up the doors and drawers with a striking contrast. The new color scheme came together exquisitely.

Late 60s Drexel side board complete restoration. Piece had sustained material frame damage over the years and needed to be rebuilt. Veneer damage on the top surface necessitated a paint-grade refinish.  All original hardware was scrubbed and polished to its original factory luster. The piece itself was refinished in a custom-blend charcoal color, using Sherwin Williams Kem Aqua Plus in a satin finish.

Spacious Macaulay kitchen with original maple cabinetry.  New homeowners wanted a cabinet color that would incorporate well with the pre-existing black granite counters. Trying to avoid "stark white", we chose Sherwin Williams 'Snowbound' in satin, which gives off a very subtle hue of gray. New satin nickel knobs and t-bar handles adorned the doors and drawers. The end result was a balanced, monochromatic look that was well-suited to the customers' design taste.

Owner of this charming Cornelius townhome requested fresh new looks for both her fireplace mantel and master bathroom vanity. The fireplace surround was clad with a handmade gray subway tile with solid white sanded grout for a striking contrast.  Custom shiplap was mounted above the mantel, and ran straight up to the ceiling.  The former bathroom vanity was removed as it lacked the space and utility value sought by the customer.  Replacing it was a custom-built vanity, providing more favorable dimensions and storage value. The vanity was finished in Sherwin Williams 'Naval'. Polished chrome hardware and a Carrara marble counter dressed up the vanity nicely, and shiplap was mounted on the rear-facing wall for continuity from the living room.

Victorian-inspired Birkdale home complete bathroom renovation.  Original builder-grade 9x9" tile floor and 30" vanity were being replaced as part of the makeover.  The original vanity was too low and lacked functional drawer space for the homeowner, so an all-new custom vanity was fabricated to better suit their needs.  Constructed using dado and pocket hole joinery using solid 3/4" maple plywood and solid poplar rails and stiles, it was built to last. Finished in Sherwin Williams Kem Aqua Plus waterborne lacquer in "Tin Lizzy" (low gloss) and adorned with modern polished chrome hardware, the vanity brought the bathroom to new heights.  The Carrara marble basketweave flooring added a touch of timeless elegance, and the walls were clad in 3x6 white subway tile and ceramic chair rail with "frost" sanded grout. Custom white and chrome outlet covers completed the look.

Custom L-shaped farmhouse-inspired desk build. Client needed base drawer units flanking each end - and file cabinet capabilities on each bottom drawer, with adequate desktop space in between. Unfinished pine 2x4 and 2x6 lumber was used for the top, bonded together using pocket-hole joinery.  The base drawer units were custom-trimmed with MDF and pine in a rustic "X" pattern before being sprayed with Sherwin Williams Kem Aqua Plus waterborne lacquer in a low gloss charcoal finish.  The top was stained by hand using "Briarsmoke" by Varathane, followed by 3 coats of waterborne clear sprayed for smoothness and durability.  Approximate finished dimensions were 7' x 3.5'.

This versatile and ornate server underwent a complete transformation. My clients had taken interest in a different piece I had previously refinished, but its dimensions wouldn't work for them.  They purchased this piece and asked that I refinish it in the same color.  Sherwin Williams "Naval" in a satin/low-gloss finish (2020 "Color of the Year") was chosen.  Brand new, vintage-inspired nickel hardware adorned the newly refinished piece, resulting in a truly unique and elegant outcome.

Mid-century chest of drawers.  Solid wood construction, but had extensive veneer damage on the frame and base.  As with all vintage furniture, the more that can be salvaged and restored back to its original condition, the better.  When restoration is not a viable option, repairing and refinishing with cabinet-grade paint are the next best thing.  The original hardware was also badly tarnished and oxidized, but was brought back to life without having to cover it with paint. Sherwin Williams "Alabaster" was used in a satin finish for the frame, and oil-based walnut stain was applied to the drawer-fronts

Spacious Cornelius kitchen had a large, unused void in the room's center, and the homeowners decided to purchase and install a new custom island composed of unfinished oak. With new granite counters recently installed, we were able to explore finish and hardware colors to pull the entire new look together.  Varathane "Briarsmoke" stain was chosen, particularly as it incorporates hues of walnut and gray and precisely reflected how the homeowner envisioned the island. New shoe moulding was mounted prior to refinishing, and luxurious brushed gold handles were mounted to complete the look.

Vintage, high quality Thomasville dresser was structurally viable and well-maintained, but had a dated original golden oak finish that was showing signs of cosmetic imperfection.  The original finish was stripped down to the bare wood to create the optimal "blank canvas" approach.  Sherwin Williams "Naval" (2020 "Color of the Year") was used in a satin/low-gloss finish, and the original mid-century hardware was deep-cleaned and restored back to its original condition.

Charming Huntersville home flooded with natural light and high ceilings.  Original honey oak kitchen cabinets had a deep, textural grain, and were not reflective of the homeowner's design taste and surrounding decor. Sherwin Williams "Whitetail" was selected in a satin finish, and new oil-rubbed bronze hardware complemented the fresh new look. Homeowner also opted for handsome new crown moulding atop the upper cabinets to render a more finished look.

Complete master bathroom remodel in Jetton/Peninsula area.  Room was original to the townhouse (late-80s), including a pickled oak vanity, linoleum flooring, and an oversized garden tub that was inadequate for the homeowner.  Area was torn out down to the studs, and new tile flooring/trim, custom shower base/tile walls, slow-close toilet, frameless glass door, custom vanity with a Carrara marble top and new faucet were installed.  Room was also painted in Sherwin Williams "Collonade Gray".

Charming Huntersville home with well-maintained oak cabinetry throughout.  Given a limited amount of natural light, the homeowners' priority was to introduce a lighter, fresher palette of color onto their cabinetry.  "Antique White" was selected in their kitchen, laundry area, and half bath, and "Snowbound" was chosen for the master bathroom, each in a satin finish. New crown molding was installed on the upper cabinet frames to replace the original trim-piece that preceded it.

Lovely Birkdale home with maple cabinetry original to the kitchen.  Homeowners wanted the ideal "off-white" that was not too creamy (earth-tone hues) or cool (gray).  After spraying a sample door in Sherwin Williams "Alabaster", it was the perfect color for the space.  All new oil-rubbed bronze hardware was mounted on the doors and drawers, which integrated very well with the existing counters and backsplash.

Stunning waterfront Mooresville home with high ceilings and open sight-lines. Homeowners wanted to renew the look of the shaker style maple cabinetry throughout their home with a more custom, distinctive look.  "Dover White" by Sherwin Williams was selected for the kitchen cabinets in a satin finish, and the center island and upper/oven cabinet remained its original charcoal color.  An elegant 4 x 16" white subway tile was also mounted in the kitchen to tie in nicely with the refinished cabinets.  Dark gray sanded grout kept the monochromatic scheme consistent. The laundry room was also refinished in a near-black charcoal shade, custom-blended to match the pre-existing color of the kitchen center island.  Custom driftwood shelving with all new brackets/hardware in a contemporary satin gold finish helped complete the look throughout the room.

Charming Davis Lake home with large, dual vanity master bathroom. Homeowners wanted to reinvent their dated, honey oak grain vanities to a rich, deep shade of blue.  'Bosporous' by Sherwin Williams was selected in a satin finish, and new satin gold hardware completed the elegant transition.

Bright and airy Troutman home with soaring ceilings.  The maple kitchen cabinetry had a dark pecan stain, which when paired with the black granite counters rendered a darker space that wasn't reflective of the homeowner's style or objective.  To bring new life to the kitchen, an elegant 3x6" classic white subway tile backsplash was first installed.  Warm gray grout created a nice balance with the counters.  Then the cabinets were refinished in Sherwin Williams "Dover White" in a satin finish. New satin nickel handles and cup pulls adorned the doors and drawers to complete the look.

Open concept Davidson home with factory espresso-stained cabinetry. Homeowner expressed interest in implementing a lighter, brighter color scheme, specifically something in between stark white and cream.  Dover White by Sherwin Williams was the hands-down ideal color, particularly as it paired so well with the existing finishes. "STIX" and "Cabinet Coat" by INSL-X were the primer/top-coat pairing. The satin finish rendered the perfect sheen - not too glossy, but sufficiently durable for ongoing cleaning and maintenance.

Flooded with natural light, this delightful home's kitchen opens up into the eating area and sitting room. The cabinets were a pecan stain with polished nickel handles. Homeowners were interested in a warm, off-white that would tie in nicely to the surrounding fits and finishes.  "Chopsticks" by Sherwin Williams was selected in a satin finish, and "STIX" and "Cabinet Coat" by INSL-X were the primer and paint finishes used. New oil-rubbed bronze hardware was also installed, delivering a gorgeous contrast to the cabinet color.

Homeowners had new counters and backsplash installed prior to having their cabinetry refinished. Eider White in a satin finish complemented the new counters very well, rendering a pale gray/subtle off-white finish.  New two-piece crown molding was installed atop the upper cabinets for depth and visual interest, and new hardware completed the look.

Repeat client whose master bathroom was completed several months prior.  With their upstairs hall bathroom now getting a facelift, the vanity was the final task at hand.  Homeowners were inspired by charcoal blue, so Van Deusen Blue (by Benjamin Moore) was selected in a satin finish. Gray primer was used to support the change to a darker pigment color. The transition was dramatic and proved to be the ideal color choice. New polished chrome hardware brought all the new colors and textures together perfectly.

Charming Birkdale kitchen with open grain oak cabinets, original to the home. Homeowners expressed interest in brightening up the space (given its limited natural light), while adding contrasting visual interest to the kitchen.  "High Reflective White" (by Sherwin Williams) was selected for the perimeter cabinets, while the center island was finished in "Silver Fox" (by Benjamin Moore), both in a satin finish.  New brushed nickel "T-Bar" handles/pulls were purchased for the doors and drawers, which will also help create a more impactful change to the space.

New brushed nickel hardware completed the new look.
